Privacy notice

Bright ideas study buddy operates Scholarly and is the data controller for personal information used to provide this service.

Information we process

  • Account details, such as your email, sign-in identifiers and authentication credentials, to create and protect your account.
  • Study messages, uploaded assignment photos and PDFs, generated study materials and app-help messages, to provide AI help and save your work in your account.
  • Subscription identifiers and billing status, to connect payments to your account.
  • Technical information such as IP address, device and browser information, request logs and usage data, for reliability, security and fraud prevention.

Why we use information

We process account, study and subscription information to perform our contract with you. We use technical information for our legitimate interests in maintaining a reliable, secure service, and keep records when required by law. Where a feature requires consent, you may withdraw that consent.

Who receives information

Our hosting, authentication, storage and AI service providers, including Lovable Cloud and Lovable AI, process information needed to run the app. Assignment content and relevant conversation history are sent to AI providers to generate study help. Paddle is our Merchant of Record and receives information needed for sales, subscription management, payments, tax compliance and invoicing. Professional advisers and authorities may receive information when necessary or legally required. We do not sell your assignment content.

Storage, security and retention

Saved study content and uploads are private to your account and protected by access controls. We use appropriate technical and organisational safeguards, including encryption in transit and account-scoped access. No online service can guarantee absolute security. We keep personal information only as long as needed for the service and relevant legal, accounting or security obligations; when no longer needed, it is deleted or anonymised. AI providers may apply their own retention terms.

International processing

Our service providers may process information outside the UK or EEA. Where required, international transfers must be covered by appropriate safeguards such as an adequacy decision or standard contractual clauses. Provider arrangements and safeguards should be confirmed before accepting live payments.

Your rights

Subject to applicable law, you may request access, correction, erasure, restriction, portability, or object to processing. You may withdraw consent without affecting earlier lawful processing. UK and EEA residents may complain to their data protection authority, including the UK Information Commissioner’s Office. Valid rights requests will be handled within one month, subject to permitted extensions.

Cookies and local storage

The app uses essential browser storage to keep you signed in. Payment and sign-in providers may use their own essential cookies. You can clear or block cookies and storage using your browser settings, but sign-in and checkout may stop working. Any non-essential analytics or marketing cookies require the appropriate notice and consent before use.

Before uploading

Upload only assignments you have permission to share. Remove unnecessary names, school identifiers and other personal or sensitive information, especially information about other people.
